A pony pulling contest made its debut at the 152nd edition of Clearfield County Fair recently, followed by the annual horse pulling contest in the afternoon.
The pony pull had a total of four heavyweight competitors and two lightweight competitors, while the horse pull drew eight heavyweights and eight lightweights. Each competitor was a two horse team.

Ponies Skip and Chance won the pony heavyweight division with a pull of 13½ feet at 4,750 pounds. Rocket and Lily placed third with a 4,750-pound pull of 13 feet, 3 inches.

The team of Sam and Sam placed fourth with a 4,250-pound pull of 5 feet, 3 inches.

2. How much further did Skip and Chance pull the load than Rocket and Lily?
Answer: 13 1/2 feet – 13 feet, 3 inches = 4 inches. Skip and Chance pulled 4 inches further that Rocket and Lily.
3. How much less weight did the fourth place finishers pull than the winning team?
Answer: 4,750 – 4,250 = 500. The fourth place finishers pulled 500 pounds less than the winning team.
4. Calculate the difference in distance pulled between the first and fourth place teams.
Answer: 13 1/2 feet – 5 feet, 3 inches = 8 feet, 4 inches.
